Enjoying MG May 2019
Our club night was a very interesting evening, with a
last minute change from our advertised speaker due to a hiccup with dates.
Mike Bundock stepped into the breach and delivered a fantastic talk on
'Trackways to Motorways' With the aid of slides and videos he showed us how our Roman roads began and how clever they were in their construction, so much so that many still exist today.
In later times Toll Gates were built, these were the first form of road tax and many are still standing today. Only Post Coaches didn't have to pay the toll, they would warn the gate house keeper of their approach by sounding the coachhorn so that the gate could be opened for them to ride straight through.
It was also a warning to other travellers to get out of their way! We also saw a 200 year old picture of The Halfway House where we meet, it has hardly changed! Faversham Transport Show was in May and many of our club supported it again this year. Deal Classic Car Show was another success with 400 plus cars parked along the sea front, a great variety of vehicles go to this event. It has become a tradition for us to cook a full english and this year was no exception, just in time Mike Bundock appeared from nowhere and got himself an invite to breakfast! Canterbury Open Garden Show took place the same weekend as Deal.
It has been a privilege to display our cars here for many years so we didn't want to let them down so the club split between Canterbury and Deal. Don't forget July is our away night, we are playing indoor bowls and having a buffet, make sure you contact Janet to book your place.
